Facade Renovation

The ravages of time are clearly visible on our church facade and its figures. The renovation is urgently needed, and so the basilica is currently being scaffolded so that the restorers can begin their work. Over the centuries, plaster, stucco, and decorative elements have been exposed to the elements without protection. The consequences include corrosion on metallic components, flaking plaster, and cracks in the stone ornaments and stucco elements. In the coming months, the specialists will repair the damage, clean the facade, and finally restore the facade color to its original version. The Rein Basilica was not always yellow. For example, in the altarpiece of the side altar of Saint Nepomuk, the originally slightly reddish facade is clearly recognizable. This is how the facade is intended to shine again at the end of the construction work, during which the already fragile staircase will also be renewed.
