A school in the monastery

EDUCATION HAS TRADITION

The BG Rein is located directly on the monastery grounds. School in the monastery has a long tradition: After the World War II, the monastery itself ran a boys’ choir boarding school, where teachers from the 1st BG Graz took examinations. In 1955, the school became a branch of the BG Carnerigasse. Although there were neither gymnasiums nor special classrooms and the pupils had to fill the stoves themselves, teachers and pupils felt very comfortable in Stift Rein. However, these students completed the upper school in the main building in Graz.

ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SCHOOLS IN THE COUNTRY

The branch of the BG Carnerigasse became more and more independent, and in 1978/79 the full expansion of the school in the historic monastery area was started. In the school year 1981/82, the Gymnasium said goodbye to its first Matura class and gained independence under the name BG Stift Rein. Today the school has 33 classes and looks after approx. 800 pupils with 80 teachers.
