The Cis\u00adter\u00adci\u00adan Gar\u00addens<\/span><\/p><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Sin\u00adce the begin\u00adnings of monasti\u00adcism, gar\u00addens have been an inte\u00adgral part of monastic life. They were a source of sus\u00adten\u00adan\u00adce, a place of retre\u00adat, and a reflec\u00adtion of spi\u00adri\u00adtu\u00adal life. The Cis\u00adter\u00adci\u00adans also cul\u00adti\u00adva\u00adted their gar\u00addens as places of work, heal\u00ading, and pray\u00ader. Here, fruits, vege\u00adta\u00adbles, and medi\u00adcinal herbs grew, pro\u00advi\u00adding food and medi\u00adci\u00adne for the com\u00admu\u00adni\u00adty. <\/p>

In the spi\u00adrit of the Bene\u00addic\u00adti\u00adne mot\u00adto ora et labo\u00adra<\/i> \u2013 \u201cpray and work\u201d \u2013 the gar\u00adden con\u00adnec\u00adted the two poles of monastic life: phy\u00adsi\u00adcal labor and spi\u00adri\u00adtu\u00adal con\u00adtem\u00adpla\u00adti\u00adon. Initi\u00adal\u00adly purely uti\u00adli\u00adta\u00adri\u00adan gar\u00addens, they evol\u00adved over the cen\u00adtu\u00adries into quiet refu\u00adges for con\u00adtem\u00adpla\u00adti\u00adon. Only in the Baro\u00adque era did many of the\u00adse simp\u00adle, func\u00adtion\u00adal lay\u00adouts trans\u00adform into magni\u00adfi\u00adcent gar\u00addens remi\u00adnis\u00adcent of prin\u00adce\u00adly palace parks \u2013 a sym\u00adbol of a new epoch of faith and aes\u00adthe\u00adtics. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

From Uti\u00adli\u00adta\u00adri\u00adan Gar\u00adden to Total Work of Art<\/span><\/p><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Cis\u00adter\u00adci\u00adans are con\u00adside\u00adred gre\u00adat cul\u00adti\u00adva\u00adtors of the Euro\u00adpean land\u00adscape, yet litt\u00adle is known about their ear\u00adly gar\u00addening prac\u00adti\u00adces. What is cer\u00adtain is that medieval gar\u00addens pri\u00adma\u00adri\u00adly ser\u00adved self-suf\u00adfi\u00adci\u00aden\u00adcy and heal\u00ading. The gar\u00adden was a pro\u00advi\u00adder of food, an apo\u00adthe\u00adca\u00adry, and a place of quiet con\u00adtem\u00adpla\u00adti\u00adon \u2013 not a place of idle\u00adness, but of life in harm\u00ado\u00adny with crea\u00adti\u00adon. <\/p>

With the Baro\u00adque era, monastic gar\u00adden cul\u00adtu\u00adre rea\u00adched its peak. Pre\u00adla\u00adte gar\u00addens emer\u00adged, rich\u00adly ador\u00adned with sculp\u00adtures, foun\u00adta\u00adins, and orna\u00adments \u2013 as can still be seen today in Sei\u00adten\u00adstet\u00adten Abbey. The archi\u00adtec\u00adtu\u00adre of the gar\u00adden mir\u00adrored the order of the cos\u00admos \u2013 sym\u00adme\u00adtri\u00adcal, clear, per\u00adme\u00ada\u00adted by divi\u00adne harm\u00ado\u00adny. Howe\u00adver, many of the\u00adse com\u00adple\u00adxes fell into dis\u00adre\u00adpair in the 19th cen\u00adtu\u00adry or were con\u00adver\u00adted into agri\u00adcul\u00adtu\u00adral land. Only today, in an era of new eco\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal sen\u00adsi\u00adti\u00advi\u00adty, are monas\u00adte\u00adries redis\u00adco\u00adve\u00adring the spi\u00adri\u00adtu\u00adal power of the gar\u00adden \u2013 as a living place bet\u00adween tra\u00addi\u00adti\u00adon and future. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Rein Abbey Gar\u00adden Through Time<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Rein Abbey also looks back on a long hor\u00adti\u00adcul\u00adtu\u00adral histo\u00adry. As ear\u00adly as the 17th cen\u00adtu\u00adry, a Baro\u00adque gar\u00adden was laid out here fol\u00adlo\u00adwing the French model \u2013 a sym\u00adme\u00adtri\u00adcal design with box\u00adwood orna\u00adments, foun\u00adta\u00adins, and a lar\u00adge reflec\u00adting pond that mir\u00adrored the monas\u00adtery. <\/p>

Over the cen\u00adtu\u00adries, the gar\u00adden chan\u00adged repea\u00adted\u00adly. The ela\u00adbo\u00adra\u00adte Baro\u00adque bro\u00adde\u00adries beca\u00adme a flou\u00adris\u00adhing uti\u00adli\u00adta\u00adri\u00adan gar\u00adden with an oran\u00adgery and a cot\u00adta\u00adge gar\u00adden in the 19th cen\u00adtu\u00adry. The lar\u00adge foun\u00adtain remain\u00aded a cen\u00adtral sym\u00adbol throug\u00adhout time \u2013 an indi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon of the gar\u00adden\u2019s para\u00addi\u00adsia\u00adcal ori\u00adgin. <\/p>

Howe\u00adver, like many other places, the Rein Abbey Gar\u00adden incre\u00adasing\u00adly fell into dis\u00adre\u00adpair in the 20th cen\u00adtu\u00adry. The once magni\u00adfi\u00adcent com\u00adplex beca\u00adme was\u00adte\u00adland. Only sin\u00adce 2024 has it blos\u00adso\u00admed anew \u2013 in a new, unu\u00adsu\u00adal form. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

In recent years, an extra\u00ador\u00addi\u00adna\u00adry pro\u00adject has been rea\u00adli\u00adzed here: the revi\u00adta\u00adliza\u00adti\u00adon of the Abbey Gar\u00adden as Aus\u00adtria\u2019s first \u201cwild Baro\u00adque gar\u00adden\u201d<\/b>.<\/p>

The con\u00adcept com\u00adbi\u00adnes the strict geo\u00adme\u00adtry of Baro\u00adque gar\u00adden archi\u00adtec\u00adtu\u00adre with the unta\u00admed diver\u00adsi\u00adty of nati\u00adve wild plants. Whe\u00adre once pre\u00adcis\u00ade\u00adly trim\u00admed beds domi\u00adna\u00adted, spe\u00adci\u00ades-rich wild\u00adflower mea\u00addows now spread across an area of 7,000 squa\u00adre meters. The design fol\u00adlows the his\u00adto\u00adri\u00adcal basic struc\u00adtu\u00adre, but the life within belongs to the \u201csix-leg\u00adged crea\u00adtures\u201d: bees, but\u00adter\u00adflies, and count\u00adless other insects. <\/p>

Tog\u00ade\u00adther with the asso\u00adcia\u00adti\u00adon Bl\u00fc\u00adhen & Sum\u00admen<\/b> (Bloo\u00adming & Buz\u00adzing), a holi\u00adstic eco\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal con\u00adcept was deve\u00adlo\u00adped, focu\u00adsing on sus\u00adtaina\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty, bio\u00addi\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty, and gent\u00adle manage\u00adment.
Three-quar\u00adters of the area con\u00adsists of nati\u00adve wild\u00adflower mea\u00addows with ori\u00adgin-cer\u00adti\u00adfied wild plants. They are gent\u00adly main\u00adtai\u00adned, mowed in sec\u00adtions, and pro\u00advi\u00adde habi\u00adtat for insects, amphi\u00adbi\u00adans, and small mammals. <\/p>

Herb and cot\u00adta\u00adge gar\u00addens with hys\u00adsop, sage, mari\u00adgold, milk thist\u00adle, and old Sty\u00adri\u00adan fruit varie\u00adties com\u00adple\u00adment the ensem\u00adble. Rep\u00adti\u00adle bio\u00adto\u00adpes, sand\u00ada\u00adri\u00adums for wild bees, water fea\u00adtures, and a wil\u00adlow gal\u00adlery crea\u00adte diver\u00adse habi\u00adtats. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
